A new report indicates that TOYOTA is preparing next year to unveil a prototype electric car with a solid battery that allows it to be fully charged within 10 minutes and can travel 500 kilometers on a single charge, all with minimal safety concerns.

TOYOTA began working on solid batteries in 2017 with plans to market it inside electric vehicles in early 2020.

TOYOTA’s solid battery promises to be a game-changer for electric cars and the entire industry.

The technology should be a potential remedy for all the drawbacks facing electric vehicles powered by conventional lithium-ion batteries, including the relatively short distance traveled on a single charge and charging times.

TOYOTA plans to be the first to sell an electric vehicle equipped with a solid battery in the early 2000s.

TOYOTA’s electric vehicles will have a range more than double compared to that of conventional lithium-ion electric cars under the same conditions, without sacrificing interior space.

Solid batteries are expected to become a viable alternative to lithium-ion batteries, as innovation reduces fire risks and doubles energy density, which measures the energy a battery can save in relation to its weight.

It takes about 10 minutes to charge an electric vehicle equipped with a solid battery, which reduces the recharge time by two thirds.

TOYOTA ranks first in the world with more than 1,000 patents related to solid batteries, and Nissan plans to develop its starter solid battery for an electric car by 2028.

Japanese manufacturers such as Sony and Panasonic pioneered the commercialization of auto battery cells, but Chinese competitors have emerged since the late 2000s.

Electric cars are set to become popular amid the global shift away from carbon.

The Japanese government is encouraging the domestic development of solid batteries, with expectations that most automotive performance technology will depend on China if the status quo continues.

It is noteworthy that TOYOTA has not yet launched an electric car outside China, and the Japanese company announced earlier this year its intention to introduce an electric SUV in 2021, and said: It is its first step towards electric cars powered by batteries.
